Supported Accommodation

Supported housing projects (hostels) attempt to bridge the gap between homelessness and independent living.

The type of accommodation varies between different places – in some hostels you light get your own self-contained bedsit/flat, and in others you will have to share a kitchen and bathroom with other residents. Some hostels are specifically for young people (16-25), but others are open to all age groups.

Hostels are staffed, and you will be allocated a Keyworker. There are often opportunities to learn about life skills like cooking, cleaning and budgeting as well as help to access education or employment. You will also be assisted in planning for future accommodation, and learn how to sustain a tenancy when you get your own place.

The supported accommodation projects that accept referrals from young people from Broxtowe include:

  • Stepping Stones, Eastwood
  • Canaan Trust, Long Eaton
  • 100 Derby Road, Long Eaton
  • Elizabeth House, Daybrook
  • Cedar Housing

Referrals are usually made through the council's housing department.
