Broxtowe Borough Council Deposit Guarantee Scheme

bbc logo

This scheme was set up by the council to help people who can't afford to pay the lump sum required by landlords at the beginning of a tenancy. By providing financial help, the council can prevent homelessness by helping people to access privately rented accommodation.

The Council does not give the landlord cash, but provides a written deposit guarantee. This means that if a tenant owes money for damage, loss or rent arrears (up to 6 weeks rent) the landlord will be paid by the Council. The council then recover the debt from the tenant.

You will be considered for the Deposit Guarantee Scheme if:

  • You are homeless or threatened with homelessness
  • You are on state benefits or earning a low income and do not have enough savings to pay the deposit yourself.
  • You are willing to repay any money paid by the council under teh guarantee.
  • You have a local connection to Broxtowe Borough
