Securing our future...

In these tough economic times, we're working hard to try to secure funding that will allow us to continue our work into the future...

We've been incredibly grateful for the Reaching Communities grant from the Big Lottery that has allowed us to develop services that, over three years, have exceeded even our own expectations:

Peer Impact started off as an idea to improve our 'Home Street Home' classroom sessions by adding an element of reality to engage the students in the sessions. The project has certainly fulfilled this, attracting praise and admiration from teachers and students alike. What we hadn't fully realised was that Peer Impact would have such a dramatic transformative effect on the young people who volunteer.

We're so proud of our peer educators and so grateful for the time, effort and enthusiasm they bring to the project. They gain skills, confidence, experience, a qualification and a whole host of positive, supportive relationships and professional connections that help them on the path to rebuilding their lives after homelessness.

'Home Street Home' sessions in schools have gone from strength to strength. Over the last year we've presented sessions to nearly 4,000 students in 5 boroughs of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Backed up by the fourth edition of 'On Your Feet!' magazine (our best yet!), the innovative, lively and engaging sessions get vital information about homelessness and independent living to young people before they leave home.

The 3Bs parcel scheme provided emergency provisions and home-starter packs to 45 young people in Broxtowe - alleviating hunger and helping young people to get back on their feet after housing crisis.

The Broxtowe Inter-Agency Forum and our training for professionals have continued to be enormously successful and are key to making sure that homelessness services in Broxtowe and the surrounding areas are well co-ordinated and that good practice, news and information are shared between agencies.

We're exploring various avenues to secure future funding and have submitted applications for grants from several charitable trusts, including an application for Lottery funding that will allow us to take our projects even further in providing opportunities for young homeless people. We know this project works, it changes lives and supports vulnerable young people to find a positive place in the community - but we need money to continue our work!
